Dr. Jan Elizabeth Lightfoot
About the Servant
Dr. Jan Elizabeth Lightfoot is devoted to comforting others with the same comfort she has received from God. Jan got a new start after high school when her then-uncle—the late Dr. James E. and Mrs. Velma Lightfoot—legally adopted her to facilitate her adult success. Thus, the State of Texas sealed her former birth certificate, name, and identity to give Jan a new beginning. This family support system sustained her through a 1989 federal work injury resulting in an occupational mental health disability. It sustained her through the 2018 continuation of the work injury resulting from a safety breach of government documents identifiable to her name. This traumatizing experience of isolation in immunized government abuse removed her from the presence of God, causing her faith to fail. Yet, she continues to serve humanity as a Biblical Scientist.
Her career as an educator, mental health professional, and civil servant has advanced her holistic approach to meeting the needs of hurting humanity. She is a chaplain, educator, mediator, psychotherapist, and advocate for mental health awareness. She is also licensed by the State of Texas to perform socio-psychological services. When her secular career ended, she organized Vine Dwellers Ministries Incorporated, the Wholeness Foundation, and the Vine Network to serve humanity. During her 71 years of life, she has served 64 years in the gospel music ministry, 54 years in public service, 47 years parenting, grandparenting, godparenting, and mentoring; 40 years providing professional mental health services, 22 years of chaplaincy and ministry services; 21 years of authorship, and 52 years of civilian and federal creditable employment service. She continues to work for the welfare of others in building the Kingdom of God. She has served the church and community for over forty years as a music minister, organist, singer, and songwriter. Her experiences as a member of the mental health diagnosis community and professional training give her great compassion for reaching the seemingly unreachable.
Dr. Lightfoot has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Service and Psychology from Prairie View A& M University, a Master of Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University, a Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology from International Christian University in Lake Charles, LA, a Doctor of Education in Counselor Education from Texas Southern University in Houston, TX, and a Master of Theological Studies from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX. Post-doctoral studies include certifications in EMDR Therapy—a memory reprocessing and trauma reduction modality; Sex Therapy and Sexual Dysfunction Therapies; and Neurofeedback of the brain. Additionally, she has written several professional publications, poetry, and self-help books.
Dr. Lightfoot is the mother of two natural sons, grandmother of three, and godmother and mentor for many young people and adults. She lives in Houston, Texas.
